
Arthur Bowman, a 2009 graduate of Jones High School
Bowman is a graduate of Jones High School IT and Finance magnet program and he’s a member of the National Honor Society, BETA Club and Vice President of his 2009 Senior Class. Arthur also holds the distinction of being a part of Jones High “6”. Jones High “6” refers to the six African American males who were at the top of the 2009 Class. Arthur’s weighted GPA was 4.2, and it is believed that having six African American males graduating at the top of the class from any High School in the United States is a first.
It is not unusual for Arthur Bowman to be part of the “First” Class. He is the first son of Arthur and Dimitra Bowman, has two sisters – Monanita and Mahalia; and one brother – Joshua. Bowman’s father is the first family member to be an entrepreneur of 24 years. His mother Dimitra is the first African American female manager at the Frito-Lay, Inc. Orlando, location.
Dimitra is also one of the first African American female managers in the international company. Arthur’s uncle – Jimmie Grant is one of the first
African American Air Traffic Controllers in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Arthur has always been an excellent student. Whatever objective he focuses on he normally achieves it” states his mother. Bowman started his golf career with the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association under the direction of Dr. Tommy Dorsey. He started playing golf in middle school and since then he has won numerous golf tournaments and has had the opportunity to participate in the Tiger Woods Golf Tournament. Bowman also appeared in a video with Tiger Woods.
Arthur Bowman will be attending the University of Florida this fall where he will be majoring in sports management and he has aspirations of becoming a sports agent.
