Recognizing the need to reverse the rising dropout rate and assist high school students, in April of 1988, Orlando Mayor Bill Frederick called upon a group of leaders to go beyond just an examination of the problem and to take it a step further to developing a program that would “promote opportunity for all of our youth – especially the less advantaged – to become productive members and part of the mainstream of the Orlando Community.”
This group became the Mayor’s Commission on Youth Opportunities, and quickly resolved to approach the challenges through a broad-based effort involving Orange County Public Schools, private businesses, government and the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce.
On April 4, 1989, the Orlando/Orange County COMPACT Program became a reality. It officially began with a pilot program of 14 students at Jones High School, mentored by 13 professionals from Coopers & Lybrand and AT&T District Manager A. George Fuller. In February 1994, Mr. Fuller became the third Executive Director of COMPACT when he became a loaned executive from AT&T. Upon his retirement in May, 1994, he was hired by OCPS to resume duties as the director of COMPACT.
Since its’ inception in 1989, COMPACT has served more than 10,000 students. For the 2007-2008 school year, it is operational at 13 school sites:Citrus Elementary,Colonial 9th Grade Center, Dr. Phillips High School, Gateway School, Jones High School, Life Skills Center, Memorial Middle School, Mollie Ray Elementary School, Oakridge High School, Orange Center Elementary School, Robert Hungerford Prep High School, Three Points Elementary School, and Timber Creek High School.

Dear Fellow Friends and Supporters,
I just wanted to take the time to say “Thank You” for helping to make this past school year at Jones High School a “Great Year!”
Your support, commitment, and kindness were so much appreciated!!
I look forward in working with you again, to help ensure the success of our wonderful students in the upcoming school year of “2010 – 2011.”

Our First Big Parental and Community Involvement Activity:
Jones High School “Back to School Celebration and Meet Your Teacher” Thursday, August 19, 2010 @ 2:00pm inside the Gym.
Please Place This On Your Calendar Now!
We are anticipating over 1,000 families and community members to attend. Set up starts at 12:00pm. (Come early to claim a good location). Last year over 40 partners and organizations participated! Again, you will have one rectangle table, and two chairs. I ask that you bring a table cloth, banner, and or poster, identifying the name of your organization. Also, I am humbly requesting you bring free “Give A- Ways” for the students, such as: (paper, pencils, folders, snacks, back packs, t- shirts, etc.) just until your supplies run out! It is important that you email me back verification of your participation, as soon as you receive this message, so I can reserve a table just for you! I will be sending out another reminder closer to the event.
Have a Safe, Relaxing, and Blessed Summer!

(June 10, 2010) – It’s a new day at JonesHigh.com. Grace Jordan Enterprises,
LLC (GJE), an Internet-based media company specializing in entertainment and media,
has revamped JonesHigh.com into a News Media website to offer a one-stop shop for
all things relating to Jones High.
This well-known website has come a long way from its humble beginning as a guestbook linking
up to the Band Alumni website ran by fellow Jones High graduates.
Once Grace Jordan caught a whiff of social networking sites, the organization teamed up with Me.com. Then, GJE moved over to the ever-so popular Ning.com Network with the now-defunct Tigers.JonesHigh.com.
“The new Jones High website is the premiere site from the Grace Jordan Media division, where the focus is placed on News Media for the African-American community surrounding this historical public institute,” said James Free Jordan, President of Grace Jordan Enterprises LLC.
In lieu of the massive changes that were taking place within the Alumni and Student communities, Jordan opted for a no-nonsense approach. Therefore, news the public can use will be offered on the entire Jones High School community website. One huge surprise is the addition of the Commentary column, written by 1993 Jones High School graduate, Audrey Dawson.
Dawson brings a straightforward approach to the JonesHigh.com writing staff, providing strong views with a colorful, journalistic style.
We are very confident that with her experience, JonesHigh.com will elevate Jones High School to a new level.
